If you ever thought of the perfect guy as tall, dark, handsome, kinda shy, but very sweet, have we got a guy for you!
Meet Oak.
Oak retired from the sled dog industry in 2024. A young man at three, he has some anxiety about the world after a less than auspicious beginning. He is slowly starting to trust in the humans in his life. Oak defers to the other dogs in the house and never causes a stir. He gets along well with the two kittens; they often snooze together.
An introverted old soul, he prefers to sit back, watch, and gauge the room before partaking. Not much of a barker, though he has a big booming “I am here too bark” to greet you in the morning or when you get home. Oaky will sit from a slight distance and watch in nice weather before coming closer for butt scritches. In cold, ugly weather he prefers to do his business and retire to the warm front room.
He is a cautious eater, waiting for everyone else to be done and no one watching before he partakes. Just last week he took a treat (placed in front of him) and ate it right away—a small but big win in his confidence. He loves music and has the cutest head tilt as he listens. He will do the same when you are talking with him—he tilts his head back and forth, definitely an active listener.
It’s taken some time for Oaky to settle in after retirement, and he’s in a good place now. He will watch new visitors and approach for pets and scritches now and give the nose bump if you stop before he’s ready. Oak would do well with a calm, confident dog. He’s open to cats who are comfortable with dogs or would do well as his humans BFF. When relaxed, he is happy to snooze at your feet.
