Meet Hat Trick, a roughly four year old Labrador Retriever X.

Hat Trick came into the care of VHS after going through quite a traumatic ordeal. As you can see from the photos, he happens to be missing a key piece of himself. That’s because Hat Trick was the unfortunate victim of a gunshot wound that severely damaged his front right leg beyond repair. After going through surgery to have his leg amputated, Hat Trick is now on the mend and searching for a loving place to call his forever home.

Hat Trick is a resilient soul who hasn’t let his past sway his wonderfully gentle demeanor in the slightest. He still has the sweetest disposition and doesn’t shy away from making new friends. Want to win a place in his heart? Nothing makes him happier than some good ol’ belly scritches and butt rubs (although that’s not to say you can’t bribe him with a tasty treat or two.) In the short while that we’ve had him, Hat Trick has been making good progress on learning his basic cues, recall, and leash manners. He also figured out house training in no time flat. We haven’t had him in a kennel yet as he sleeps soundly through the night curled up on his dog bed. As for his missing leg? It may slow him down a little, but he definitely doesn’t let that stop him one bit. He still loves to explore and go on adventures alongside the rest of the pack. He does need to take breaks in between to rest a little though, as he’s still acclimating to being a tri-pawd and working on his stamina. Hat Trick has been good with the dogs that he’s met, but he will need a home without cats or pocket pets as he has quite a strong prey drive. He would do best in a home with limited stairs and a large, fenced yard. If you think Hat Trick might be the perfect fit for you, pease fill out an application!
