Chester Then and Now

What a difference love makes

What a difference love makes

CHESTER HAS BEEN RESCUED!
VHS has a slogan: Let the Love Begin. Today that statement is lifesaving for Chester who has spent an entire decade in a family who outright stated that the ‘hated that dog,” and they were going to kill him.

Their declarations were not hard to believe when we saw the shape he was in. The poor guy was so incredibly matted, he struggled to move or even open his mouth wide enough to complain. His toenails grew round and under his feet, (imagine trying to walk). It was impossible to brush out his coat – it was so painfully matted, he had to be sedated and shaved by a veterinarian. And when they checked his teeth, some were so bad they fell out!

LIFE IS GOOD now though! Chester is in a wonderful foster home with people who will let him take the time he needs to understand that he is now very much loved and we will do everything in our power to make sure he never hurts emotionally or physically again. He is responding so well – isn’t the resiliency of dogs amazing!

And thanks to our amazing 50/50 players and donors, there was no hesitation in taking on a dog who could potentially have so many health issues. The money raised through the monthly 50/50 is all allocated to the emergency medical fund.

Thank you for playing and making a difference.

Will you play again? Get your tickets and ask your friends and family to play along.

THANK YOU from Chester and the many other dogs and cats, puppies and kittens that will be helped by your contribution.

You are the lifeblood of our work on behalf of animals.

You are the lifeblood of our work on behalf of animals.

As a non-profit organization, the Victoria Humane Society depends entirely on donations from kind-hearted people like you. Every month, we rescue literally dozens of dogs and cats, and sometimes other small animals, many from horrific circumstances such as neglect, starvation and abuse. The associated costs of rescue are significant, from arranging transportation for the animals out of remote communities and into our care, to emergency medical bills to save animals lives, to spay and neuter costs, vaccinations, hospitalizations, medications and on-going food costs and incidentals. Monthly and one-time donors are literally our most critical form of support. We thank you for donating what you can today.
